Photo Tips – Shooting in Manual

We’re still getting technical! Today we’re going to discuss how to put together the things we’ve covered recently (ISO, Shutter speed, and Aperture) to create the Exposure Triangle. Shooting using all 3 of those settings means that you are shooting in manual mode! Woohoo!

When you are making adjustments to each of these settings, you’ll need to pay attention to what is happening with the light meter in the view finder. As you adjust one setting, at least one of the others will probably need to be changed to bring the exposure to the appropriate level.

When making these changes, think about what is important to you in your photo and the situation you are photographing. Do you want a really fuzzy background? Be sure to lower your aperture! Are you shooting in a low light situation? Bring that ISO up and lower your shutter speed as much as you can while still getting a crisp image. Are your kiddos running all over? Bring your shutter speed up!

If you have more questions about the exposure triangle, or would like to host a Manual Camera party where you and your friends can learn all about these things, give us a call at 832-573-3731.
