Dogs aren’t an afterthought at Kara Powell Photography — they’re family, and they get treated like it. Whether it’s a golden retriever crashing a family portrait session in Rob Fleming Park or a senior’s loyal lab tagging along for graduation photos, dogs are woven right into the story instead of being an optional add-on or a five-minute “let’s grab a quick shot with the dog too.” Kara builds time into the session to let dogs be dogs — muddy paws, wagging tails, that one shot where they’re mid-shake and everyone’s laughing — because those unscripted moments are often the ones families treasure most on the wall years later. It’s part of why sessions are on-location and unhurried: there’s room for the family dog to just show up as themselves, the same way every other family member does.
So treat them amazing and invite them along to your session. Or heck, maybe they get their own session. We do that too.
