As a photographer, I get asked a lot what I would suggest for clients. Whether it be for themselves, their kids, etc. So I thought I would put them all together so you guys can read at your leisure. Now these will change over time, as new and fun things come out all the time. But my go too all the time is Canon. I am a Canon girl. So if you can find anything Canon that is a good price, get that.
And I always suggest to purchase great lenses. The camera itself is not that big of a deal. There are a TON of options. Film, mirrorless, DSLR, point and shoot, etc. So get what is within your budget an go have fun.
Here are a few things that I suggest with links to my Amazon Affiliate.
If you are looking for a great little starter camera for your teen. I highly suggest the any of the Canon Rebels. But this deal on the Canon Rebel T7 has so much stuff with it. You could throw half of it away and it is still a great deal. For $729, you get two lenses and the body. It is a great way for your teen to play around with photography. I bought something similar for my son when he was 9 and he absolutely loved it. This camera also records 1080 video. It is a great starter for anyone.
If you would like to add a lens to this little camera, check out the Canon 50mm f1.8stm. It is the lens I started out on because of the price. For $169 it is an amazing little lens that created gorgeous images. Pair that with any Canon camera and you have a winning combination.
Now if you want a step up from a starter, I would suggest the new Canon R10. It is mirrorless and 24mp. You get sharp, 4K video at up to 30 fps, and cropped video at 60 fps that’s not as sharp but certainly still usable. And it is light weight for travel. It has eye tracking and a huge list of other features for a camera around $1000.
Now if you want the latest Canon camera, try the Canon r5. This is a beast. It is full frame, 8k video and 45 mp. And you can shoot 20 frames per second. Every photographers dream. It also has subject tracking not just eye tracking. But if you don’t have the lenses to back this beast up, then forget about it. At $3000, you need to use this baby every day.
My absolute favorite lens is the Canon 85mm1.2 L USM. It is gorgeous. But it is heavy and you have to stand pretty far away from people.
And of course the best camera is the one you use every day. Which for me is the one in my pocket. I use my phone a TON.
I hope these were helpful. If you have any questions about what to purchase or anything Canon, just ask.
