If you’re a Woodlands TX senior parent starting to think about senior portraits, you’ve probably noticed something: not all senior sessions are created equal. Some are quick, in-and-out appointments. Others — like the ones we do here — are built to become something your family keeps for generations.
So before you book anywhere else, here’s an honest, no-fluff look at exactly what’s included in a Kara Powell Photography senior session, and what’s worth knowing ahead of time.
What’s Included
A real consultation before we ever pick up a camera. Every session starts with a conversation, not a contract. We talk about who your senior is — their personality, their favorite spots in The Woodlands, what makes them them — so the session reflects them, not a template.
Guidance on what to wear. Deciding what to wear (and what to bring as backups) is one of the most stressful parts of session prep for most families. We walk you through outfit selection ahead of time, so your senior shows up feeling confident instead of scrambling the morning of.

Outfit changes during the session. Because we build in time for a few different looks, your senior’s gallery won’t feel like one repeated moment — it’ll feel like a real reflection of who they are, from a few different angles.
A fully custom, on-location session. Every session is shot on location, in the light and landscapes of The Woodlands — never in a studio (unless that is the location you select). Locations are chosen to fit your senior specifically, not pulled from a generic list.
Professional retouching. Every image you select is retouched by hand, so what you receive is polished and gallery-ready.

Help choosing images and products afterward. Once your gallery is ready, you’re not left to sort through hundreds of images alone. We guide you through selecting your favorites and help you think through which pieces — an album, wall art, a keepsake box — will actually get used and loved for years, not just saved to a hard drive.
A product credit toward your final artwork. Every session includes a credit that goes directly toward your legacy pieces — the wall art and heirloom products that turn a photo into something your family actually displays and holds onto.
Delivery of your finished images. Once everything is finalized, your digital images and any ordered products are delivered to you — ready to share, print, and pass down.

Hand-holding throughout the process. Through-out the whole journey, Kara will be right there with you. This is not something that you book online and only see the photographer at the actual session. We walk you through each step and help you and your senior get the custom experience they deserve.
In short: this isn’t a “show up, get some photos, figure out the rest yourself” experience. Every piece, from the first conversation to the final delivery, is designed for you.

What’s Not Included (And Worth Planning For)
Professional hair and makeup. This is the one piece we don’t provide directly — but we’ll say it plainly: for most seniors, especially young women, professional hair and makeup makes a noticeable difference in how confident they feel and how the final images look. We’re happy to pass on our favorite hair and makeup artist in The Woodlands and Houston area so this is one less thing to figure out on your own — it’s just not bundled into the session itself.
Every location under the sun. Sessions are built around a thoughtfully chosen location that fits your senior’s personality — but that doesn’t mean every single spot in Houston is fair game within a standard session. If your senior has their heart set on more than one distinct location — say, a favorite trail and a downtown backdrop — that’s absolutely something we can do, it just involves additional time and planning beyond a single-location session. So there will be an additional fee if we go to more than one location. And some of our favorite locations require permits. A lot of Houston parks are now doing this. So just keep this in mind.
The Bottom Line
A Woodlands TX senior session is a milestone, not just a to-do list item — and the goal of everything included here is to make sure that milestone actually turns into something your family treasures, not just a folder of files you forget to print. If you’re ready to talk through what a session could look like for your senior, we’d love to hear their story.
